RSS feeds

Finally I have explored the world of RSS feeds - could be useful but I am concerned that it might add to the information overload. So I am trying our some library related feeds and a recipe one for a more down to earth experience and the Powerhouse museum phot of the day.
Bloglines News (11) (0)
Books guardian.co.uk (15) (0)
Library Stuff (3) (0)
MyRecipes: Dinner Tonight (10) (0)
Powerhouse Museum - Photo of the Day (10) (0)
Publishers Weekly - Best Sellers News (10) (0)
ResourceShelf (0) (0)
So I'll just monitor these for a while and unsubscribe as required. I think I'll need to be very selective if this is to be useful.
It could be a useful way of keeping up to date with developments in the library world

Progress at last

So - I have finally made some progress and set up a Flickr account and uploaded some photos. Flickr could be useful for the library context to put up photos on the web. Gradually making my way through Lesson 3 - it all takes time and I end up doing it at home. So here's a nice peaceful scene to focus on!

Another attempt...

So it's the end of September and all my good intentions to pursue web2.0 have been set aside in the busyness of life so here I am hoping to have a last attempt to start again!

still learning

This is a picture of an old dog! Luckily she doesn't have to apply herself to learning to use web 2.0! As for me I am finding a serious problem with time to spend on it - already I am running behind schedule - the best I can hope for is to do a bit each week and at least I will know more than when I started. We can see that the library can make use of blogs so maybe when we start to pool our knowledge we can experiment with one for internal use.
Then I can move on to the next new aspect of web 2.0 ...

First time for everything...

Learning anything new has a degree of frustration. I have just created my first blog - I thought I had created my first entry too and I lost it! If at first you don't succeed ...
Since I profess to believe in lifelong learning and I really enjoy teaching others, experiencing frustration as I explore web 2.0 will be an interesting experience and hopefully will make me more patient with others!
So what will I do with a blog? Maybe it will be useful to communicate with family and friends - and we certainly need to expore possiblities for using blogs on our library website. If young people (and adventurous people of all ages!) use blogs we need to be using them to reach out into the community and communicate with our borrowers. Inside the library we could use a blog for FAQs etc - we just need to familiarise ourselves with the possibilities.
So I am looking forward to extending my knowledge of new ways of using the internet. The old dog can learn new tricks!
